I have a small apartment with only a built-in kitchenette tabletop for a working surface, and I would just lay a beach towel down on it prior to guitar repair of any kind. Now I have a very cool mat to use instead that protects better and is the right kind of surface to be doing any guitar work on. It comes with a nice hard cardboard tube with a slip off top for storage when not in use. Highly recommended for all self-confessed amateur luthiers/guitar repair hacks like me.

I build guitars and have two other mats I purchased before- one was cork and the other is a material that alway would curl on the ends. The shortness of these alway frustrated. Gave the D’Addario mat a try and it is awesome! Came in a great tube that I retained for storage. When I use it, the mat always lays flat and has the length I always wanted for a functional mat for guitar builds, string changes and repairs! Used my points for the purchase and one happy individual!

This mat is made of mat. Premium mat. It has not yet, however, changed my strings regardless of how many times I have asked it (politely or otherwise). Though, I am hoping it is just acclimating to the dry desert climate as opposed to just being insolent. I will give it another couple of days but preparing for the need to change the strings myself. If that is indeed the case, I will probably do so ON the mat itself, which should provide some improved cushioning and slippage resistance at the very least. The colors are nice.
