Natalie Groom

Dr. Natalie Groom is a Maryland-based clarinetist, composer, educator, and arts advocate whose career blends performance, innovation, and community impact. She currently serves on the faculty at both UMBC and Towson University while maintaining an active performing career praised for its “rich, fluid, and colorful tone.” Natalie has appeared at venues including The Kennedy Center, AMP by Strathmore, and the New World Center, and has performed with ensembles such as the Annapolis Symphony, Virginia Opera, and Tucson Symphony.

Natalie is also the co-founder of Whistling Hens®, an ensemble dedicated to performing and commissioning works by women composers, and founder of the flexible chamber project Three Reeds and a Horn. Her work has earned recognition from Chamber Music America, the International Alliance for Women in Music, and the International Clarinet Association. In addition to her artistic and educational work, Natalie is co-inventor of the Reed Mapper® single reed micrometer and an active voice in music leadership, composition, and advocacy for women artists around the world.
