Lucia Sarmiento

Born in Peru, saxophonist, bandleader, and composer Lucia Sarmiento has found a way to seamlessly blend jazz, fusion, Afro-Peruvian rhythms, and contemporary pop into a unique style entirely her own. Lima-born and Chicago-based, Lucia first gained recognition after joining legendary Weather Report drummer Eric Gravatt's band, Source Code, where she found her voice as a jazz artist under his mentorship. Her 2025 debut album, Escape, showcases her distinctive tenor saxophone style and genre-spanning approach, earning international acclaim and strong streaming success. Sarmiento has performed and recorded alongside renowned artists including Arturo Sandoval, Randy Brecker, Melissa Aldana, Kurt Elling, and Bob Mintzer, while also touring internationally with Pitbull and Karol G. In addition to her work as a performer and composer, she hosts the PBS digital music series Sound Field.
