About Joe Hobbs
Joe Hobbs is a leading percussion educator, arranger, and DCI veteran, known for his championship-winning work with Carolina Crown, Bluecoats, and Vandegrift High School.
Joe Hobbs is a nationally respected percussion arranger, educator, and DCI veteran with over 20 years of experience. He currently serves as Battery Arranger and Caption Head for Carolina Crown, following an award-winning tenure with the Bluecoats, where he helped secure their first-ever Fred Sanford Award for high percussion in 2022, as well as a DCI World Championship in 2024.
Joe has also written for and taught numerous top ensembles, including The Cavaliers, Phantom Regiment, Spirit of Atlanta, and Music City Mystique. As Director of Percussion at Vandegrift High School (2016–2025), he helped lead the program to national acclaim, including multiple contest wins, performances at PASIC and the Midwest Clinic, and contributions to Vandegrift’s historic UIL and BOA championship seasons.
He is the author of The Starting Line, a snare method book published by Tapspace, and his writing has been featured by top programs like the University of Texas and University of Alabama. Joe holds degrees from Murray State University and Lamar University, and proudly endorses EVANS drumheads. He currently lives in Austin, Texas.
