What is the difference between classical and jazz saxophone mouthpieces?

The main difference between jazz and classical saxophone mouthpieces is the width. A jazz mouthpiece is wider and has thinner walls, which offers greater projection and a different voice, sometimes described as brighter or louder. A classical mouthpiece, by contrast, is constructed with a narrower space and larger chamber, for a warmer, lighter sound.

How do I know what size mouthpiece to get for my saxophone?

Mouthpiece sizes refer to the tip opening or the distance between the reed and the mouthpiece. When it comes to mouthpiece size numbers, the smaller the size, the smaller the opening; the larger the size the larger the opening. To find the right mouthpiece size for your saxophone, refer to our Mouthpiece Comparison Chart.
