Garo Tavitjan

Tavitjan Brothers Group/Garo & Paramecium

"Evans G1 and G12 Coated drumheads give me a rich, warm sound, and a beautiful sustain that no other company can offer.

With the G1 Clear, the sustain is fantastic and warm. I can hear only one consistent tone, no matter how silent or loud I play."

World renowned critics from Jazz Times, All About Jazz, Concerto, New York Spectator, Guardian, Daily News, and Jazz Corner evaluate his music and performance highly. Garo's musical expression is a unique blend of several musical genres, combined with the expressive elements of jazz.

Garo received a scholarship from Berklee in 2001 and at the Wolfgang Jazz Academy in Germany in 2002. He has received many awards as a percussionist, drummer, and producer. His more interesting accolades include making the first Macedonian snare drum with GS Handcraft and creating the first drum clinic in Macedonia.

After a long period of various performances and collaborations, Garo Tavitjan officially continued his work in 2002, with his brothers, under the name Tavitjan Brothers.

The same year, they won the international competition of the Sony Jazz in London. In 2006, Garo received an award for the Best Jazz Album, for the first time in Macedonian history, and in 2008, an award for Concert of the Year for his concert at the Universal Hall in Skopje. This was also the first sold out and award-winning jazz concert in the history of his country. With his brother, Garo now has two #1 best-selling albums (200,000 CDs) of the decade, in consecutive periods, from 2008 to 2014. He also performed at the largest concert in history, held at the Skopje stadium, in front of more than 70,000 people.

In addition, Garo has collaborated with world renowned artists like Mike Stern (Miles Davis), Frank Gambale, Eric Marienthal (Chick Corea Elektric band), Rhani Krija (Sting), Morris Pleasure (Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire), and others. He has also been selected as one of 500 greatest drummers of all time by Drummerworld.
