About The Decemberists

Known for their literate lyrics and folk-infused indie rock, The Decemberists have carved out a unique niche in modern music. Led by singer-songwriter Colin Meloy, the Portland-based band debuted with Castaways and Cutouts (2002), introducing their storytelling prowess and theatrical sound. Albums like Picaresque (2005) and The Crane Wife (2006) expanded their fanbase, weaving history, folklore, and adventure into their songs. Their 2011 album The King Is Dead brought a more stripped-down Americana influence and became their first No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Over two decades, The Decemberists have remained one of indie rock’s most distinct and imaginative bands, beloved for their literary sensibilities and eclectic instrumentation.
