Joel Cardoso is a Portuguese clarinetist and D’Addario Woodwinds artist based in Switzerland, known for his expressive playing and international performances with orchestras such as the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, and City Light Orchestra.

About Joel Cardoso

Joel Cardoso is a Portuguese clarinetist and Backun Artist, recognized for his versatility as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician. He is a member of the City Light Orchestra (KKL Luzern) and collaborates with leading ensembles such as the Orchestra della Svizzera italiana, Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, and Argovia Philharmonic.

 

Winner of over two dozen international awards, he has earned first prizes at the Carlino Clarinet International Competition (Italy, 2023), Thailand International Clarinet Competition (2021), and the Yamaha Music Foundation of Europe Scholarship (2018). His performance career spans Europe, Asia, and South America, including appearances at the Lucerne Festival, Zermatt Festival, Grafenegg, Davos, and more.

 

He has performed with the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra and was invited to play with the Estonian National Opera and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid (Teatro Real), collaborating with musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic at the Zermatt Festival. Alongside live performance, his projects with the Rovere Trio and as a soloist reach millions online across YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

 

Currently based in Switzerland, Joel is pursuing a Solo Master’s at Hochschule Luzern (his third Master’s degree), after studies with François Benda, Paolo Beltramini, Robert Pickup, Jordi Pons and Vítor Matos, supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
