ABOUT JOHAN VAN DER LINDEN


Johan van der Linden, Professor of Saxophone at the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Zwolle and the Conservatory of Utrechts (HKU), is one of the finest saxophonists in the Netherlands. van der Linden studied classical saxophone at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Ed Boogaard. In 1982, he was appointed a chair in the Dutch Royal Military Band in The Hague and performed with the band until 1990. van der Linden was a founding member of the world-famous Aurelia Saxophone Quartet, where he performed from 1982-2013. During his tenure with Aurelia, the Quartet won the 'Edison Klassiek,' a prestigious prize for the best CD recording of 1988. In addition to his roles at the conservatories, van der Linden is a member of the Netherlands Wind Ensemble and frequently collaborates with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, and many others. van der Linden has premiered a number of concertos for saxophone and is an advocate for new music for saxophone and piano. His duo with pianist Henry Kelder, Lind'n Kelder, has commissioned new works saxophone and piano. Johan van der Linden is an active composer and arranger whose works have been published by Global Music Facilities, Tierloff Muziekcentrale, Molenaar, Matchingarts Edition, and Donemus. He is an endorser and performing artist for D'Addario Woodwinds, Henri Selmer Paris, and Silverstein Ligatures.
