EVANS Hybrid Sensory Percussion

No. Instead of a traditional module, Sensory Percussion connects to a computer running Sensory Percussion 2 software. The EVANS Portal is an audio interface that links your Sensors to the software. Sensory Percussion fundamentally works differently from traditional electronic drum sets.

You will need a drumset, drumheads, drum stands and hardware, drumsticks, a laptop, and headphones or speakers. The software runs on its own and includes built-in samplers, effects, and great-sounding presets and samples, so you don’t need to buy any other software.

The Cymbal and Hi-Hat Sensors are optimized to work great with EVANS dB One cymbals, and they are included in the Sensory Percussion Kit System bundle. The software and hardware are tuned to work seamlessly with them, with no additional setup or training required. The sensors will also work well with most other low-volume cymbals and acoustic cymbals.

Sensory Percussion is optimized for EVANS dB One low-volume cymbals, but works with most acoustic and low-volume cymbals. Fordrumheads, we recommend EVANS dB One or dB Zero heads for low-volume play, and standard EVANS heads for hybrid performance. Please note: the dB One snare head is not recommended — use a dB One tom head on the snare instead.

Sensory Percussion makes acoustic-to-electronic (A2E) conversion simple. Change your heads to low-volume heads, replace your cymbals with low-volume cymbals, and addDrum, Cymbal, and Hi-Hat Sensors to your existing kit to electrify it.

Yes. Sensory Percussion is designed to augment your current acoustic setup rather than replace it. It fits on most acoustic drum sets and on most common drum hardware, including standard drum hoops and most standard cymbal hardware.

Yes. The Portal interface accepts up to 7 Sensors of any type —drum, cymbal, and hi-hat — so you can add and customize your setup over time.

Hybrid drumming is when a drum set combines both acoustic and electronic elements. As recorded music uses more electronic samples, hybrid drumming has become an important tool for touring and gigging drummers.

Sensory Percussion software comes with over 100 presets out of the box, with hundreds more available for free at www.sunhou.se/sounds. These cover a wide range of sounds and styles — from acoustic drums and cymbals to classic electronic drums, melodic tones, and chords. Kits can be tweaked and remixed, or you can start a new kit from scratch for unlimited flexibility. The software also includes classic effects like delays, reverbs, filters, and EQs, plus MIDI functionality to connect with other musical devices.

Yes. Audio files on your computer can be loaded into Sensory Percussion and triggered on your drums and cymbals.

In most situations, latency is unnoticeable. The exact amount depends on your chosen buffer size. The faster your computer, the lower you’ll be able to set your buffer size.

Many beginners turn to electronic drums for their low cost and low volume, but learning on rubber cymbals and low-quality mesh heads can hold back proper technique. We recommend learning on real low-volume cymbals with Sensory Percussion so that proper touch, technique, and playing habits develop from the very beginning.
