Andre Acevedo

Dr. Andre Acevedo is an active jazz musician and educator originally from the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. In North Texas, he taught saxophone lessons, masterclasses, and clinics, maintaining a thriving studio of more than fifty students whose achievements include placements in region, area, and Texas All-State bands. His performing career is equally diverse, with experience ranging from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Band, to regional jazz ensembles, Broadway musical productions, cruise ships, and the American Elvis Live!: National Tour.

Dr. Acevedo earned his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of North Florida, where he studied with the legendary saxophonist Bunky Green. He went on to complete a Master’s degree in Jazz and Studio Music at the University of Memphis, serving as graduate teaching assistant for the jazz department. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for music education, which led him to pursue the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At Illinois, he performed as lead tenor saxophonist with both the Latin Jazz Ensemble and the Concert Jazz Band, appearing at the Jazz Education Network (JEN) and Midwest Clinic conferences. His doctoral dissertation explored the use of jazz solo transcriptions as pedagogical tools for undergraduate saxophonists.

A Conn-Selmer Center Stage Performing Artist and a D'addario educational artist, Dr. Acevedo performs on Yanagisawa and Selmer saxophones, and D'addario reeds and mouthpieces exclusively. He is thrilled to join the music faculty at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, where he teaches jazz studies and music theory. Outside of music, he enjoys life in Tifton, Georgia with his dog, Bucky.
