Mark Knopfler is a British singer, songwriter, and guitarist best known as the frontman of Dire Straits, one of the most successful rock bands of the late 20th century. Knopfler solo career includes critically acclaimed albums such as Golden Heart (1996) and The Ragpicker’s Dream (2002). He also gained recognition for composing film scores, including the beloved soundtrack for The Princess Bride (1987).
