About Rick Margitza

Detroit-born saxophonist and composer Rick Margitza studied with Donald Sinta, Sonny Stitt, Michael Brecker, David Liebman, and others. He moved to New York in 1989 and went on to perform and record with the legendary likes of Miles Davis, McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Tony Williams, Bobby Hutcherson, Maria Schneider, Dave Douglas, and Eddie Gomez. Margitza has released ten albums as a leader while also composing orchestral works, including two symphonies and a saxophone concerto. Based in Paris since 2003, he continues to perform internationally while maintaining an active career as an educator. His book 365 Days of Practice was published by Sher Music in 2024.
