Caring for Your Instrument & Bow

Instrument Care:

  • Always store at room temperature. Try to avoid extreme heat or cold.
  • Keep your case closed and latched when not in use.
  • After each session, use a soft, lint-free cloth to remove rosin dust.
  • Replace strings regularly to maintain tone and reliability. (Ideally every 3-4 months for Violin/Viola, 6-12 months for Cello, 1-3 years for Bass)
  • Utilize humidity control to prevent damage.

Bow Care & Rosin:

  • Avoid touching the bow hair! Natural oils from your fingers can reduce its lifespan.
  • Apply rosin evenly before playing.
  • Loosen bow hair when storing; tighten only before use.
  • Have your bow rehaired when hair is worn, broken, or dirty.

Installing & Tuning Your Strings

1. Prep Your Instrument

  • Secure it in a stable position before changing strings.

2. Remove the Old String

  • Turn the peg slowly to release tension, then unwind and remove the string.
  • IMPORTANT: Only remove and change strings one at a time to maintain bridge and soundpost position.

3. Install the New String

  • Thread it through the tailpiece or fine tuner.
  • Guide it into the bridge and nut grooves.
  • Wind neatly onto the peg, applying even tension.

4. Tune Up

  • Play the string and use fine tuners or pegs to reach the correct pitch.
  • Repeat for each string.

Pro Tip: Change strings one at a time to maintain bridge and soundpost position.
