How to Clean Your Guitar & Its Strings

Nothing is easy until you learn to do it. Restringing a guitar is a perfect example of that. Before you've learned, this administrative, but necessary maintenance task can be a bit daunting. After all, you don't want your guitar to play poorly, sound bad, or incur damage in the restringing process.

You probably spent a nice chunk of change on your guitar. To keep it in the best possible condition and make it last a lifetime, there's a few things you can do daily (or at least after every time you play it).

This video is designed to give you a few quick visual tips to keep your guitar at peak performance. If you're in a real hurry, the takeaways are:

Clean the Body — Use D'Addario spray cleaner and a microfiber cloth to wipe down the body. Spray a little cleaner on your cloth and gently move it over all parts of the guitar.

Clean the Strings — Wipe the strings off with a dry microfiber cloth. This gets any small particles and gunk off and helps them last longer. You can also use D'Addario XLR8 String Lubricant which gives them a sleek feel and look, in addition to keeping them clean. It can even ward off early rusting.

Follow these daily maintenance tips to get the most out of your guitar!
