Beginner ACOUSTIC guitar LESSON 9:

20 MINUTE PRACTICE ROUTINE

To correspond with your first lessons, Justin Guitar prescribes 20 minutes a day of practicing what you've learned. Follow along with this video or read the points below to learn how you should spend it.

Start with "Chord Perfect" practice, which involves first fingering the chord correctly, then strumming through it until you hear it ring clearly. Remove your hand, then do it again. Spend three minutes on the D chord, then three minutes on the A chord with this method.

After that, move on to "anchor finger work," in which you find the chords, finger them correctly with your fretting hand and alternate between A and D, for two minutes. Then move on to two minutes of actually playing the chords clearly, changing back and forth between A and D. You may want to write down how many times you successfully changed between the chords and track your progress.

Finish with 10 minutes (half your practice session) practicing songs — because that's what playing guitar is all about!
