Jay Weinberg

"The Heavyweight is an absolute bullwhip of a snare drumhead. I like to tune my snare drum relatively high, and this head gives me the crack and body that I need to make the impact that I want."

"I love the G2 Clears for their mix of warm resonance and sharp attack. With fast, loud music, I need my rack toms to have a quick response and definition, and I need my floor toms to growl and shake the floors - and they all have to work in harmony. I completely find that with the G2's."

Jay Weinberg was born on September 8, 1990 in New Jersey. In 2008, while pursuing his education at Stevens Institute of Technology, he toured internationally, playing drums with Bruce Springsteen & The E St. Band, Against Me!, Kvelertak, Madball, and more. In December 2013, Jay began playing with Des Moines, Iowa-based heavy metal band Slipknot. He performed on the band's fifth studio album, ".5: The Gray Chapter" (Roadrunner), which debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200, as well as in Japan, Australia, Canada, Russia, and Switzerland. It has been certified Gold in the US, Australia, Austria, Germany, and the U.K., and Platinum in Russia. The album received nominations in the 57th and 58th Grammy Awards ("The Negative One" and "Custer," Best Metal Performance; Best Rock Album). Jay also performed on Slipknot's "Day of the Gusano" (Eagle Rock); a live album / theatrical documentary of the band's first-ever performance in Mexico. Since 2014, Jay has spent his time touring with Slipknot throughout North, South, and Central America, Europe, U.K., Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and Asia, as well as performing and releasing music with Hesitation Wounds: a Los Angeles-based hardcore band co-founded by himself, Jeremy Bolm (Touché Amoré), Neeraj Kane (Hope Conspiracy, Suicide File), and Stephen LaCour (ex-Trap Them). The band released a four-song EP "Hesitation Wounds" (Secret Voice) in 2013, and its debut full-length "Awake For Everything" (6131) in 2016. Jay was selected by DRUM! Magazine as one of the Top 3 Drummers Who Made a Difference in 2015, featured on the covers of Modern Drummer and Rhythm Magazine in 2016, and voted Drummer of the Year in the 2014 Loudwire Music Awards, Best Metal Drummer in the 2015 and 2017 MusicRadar / Rhythm Magazine Best In Drums Awards, and Best Metal Drummer in the 2017 Modern Drummer Readers Poll. Since relocating to Nashville, Tennessee in 2015, Jay has continued to paint, focusing primarily on oil paintings, and collaborating with SJC Custom Drums, creating one-of-a-kind mixed media paintings on drum shells. In 2018, Jay began working with Best Buddies Tennessee, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). He is currently working on new music and art projects, creating commissioned artwork, giving drum lessons in Nashville, and preparing for Slipknot's upcoming world tour in support of the band's forthcoming Roadrunner Records release, due August 9, 2019.
