About Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff

Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff has been the guitarist and creative backbone of funk institution Lettuce since its 1992 inception. With Lettuce earning a Grammy nomination for their album Elevate, Shmeeans brings deep rhythmic insight, treating his guitar like percussion, to the band’s genre-blending jams. He’s renowned for using a Les Paul to deliver fat, melodic funk lines and tight syncopation around a band that fuses soul, hip-hop, jazz, and psychedelia. Touring internationally, hosting innovative projects like Lettuce symphony performances, and primed for even more creative output, Shmeeans continues to inspire with his brilliantly strange ideas and the endless pursuit of groove.

"I needed to try the new longest lasting XS electric strings...I was very excited. I am not a big string breaker and don’t love changing my strings after every gig, especially on tour. I was told that there was a coating on the strings…and to see what I thought, I couldn’t believe it. I LOVED the coating. It kind of felt like I had put a string-and-tone-saving spray on them, and I love that feeling. I felt like the tone was 'snappy' which I really like for playing funk rhythm. And, per usual, the intonation is always unmatched and consistent. Playing leads felt incredible and the tone was spot on. And the best part? It felt like this gig after gig."
