D'ADDARIO FOUNDATION

The D’Addario Foundation is a non-profit organization on a mission to provide music education to as many children as possible. For the past 40 years, the Foundation has given financial support to high quality music education programs that are making a difference in underserved communities. Much of the financing for the Foundation comes from D’Addario itself. The company donates a percentage of every sale, plus an additional percentage of net profits each year.

In the past 10 years alone, the Foundation has reached an estimated 2.5 million students, by supporting 700 diverse programs in 47 U.S. states and 54 countries around the world. One hundred percent of every dollar the Foundation receives goes directly to these programs and the children they benefit.

Music’s Lasting Impact

The Foundation’s mission is built on the fact that children who receive early and consistent musical instruction are the beneficiaries of profound advantages, both cognitively and socially. Playing a musical instrument engages nearly every area of the brain at once and participating in music gives children a sense of purpose and accomplishment, while teaching them discipline and collaboration. The programs D'Addario supports have elevated graduation rates for high-poverty students to over 90% in areas where those rates typically hover around 55%.

Fighting Marginalization with Music

40% of high schools do not require music education as part of their curriculum. And many of them are underfunded and in low-income areas. Therefore, providing access to inclusive, engaging music education has become an essential and effective tactic in the fight against marginalization.

College Scholarship Fund

Since 2018, the D’Addario Foundation has awarded 53 scholarships—approximately 10 per year—to children in high need. On average, these recipients have been part of a Foundation-supported music education program for 7 years and many are the first in their family to attend college.
