EVANS EMAD, or “Externally Mounted Adjustable Damping” system, is the unparalleled industry standard in drum tone customization. There are a lot of words in that description, but all it really means is, EMAD lets you change your tone with ease. We created EMAD to make shaping the attack and focus of a drumhead really simple. Here’s how:
EMAD drumheads are built with a durable plastic ring around the perimeter. Within that ring is another foam ring. That foam ring insert serves to focus your drum tone, while reducing sustain and enhancing attack. EMAD heads also come with a second, larger foam ring which you can swap in to achieve even more focus and attack, with even less sustain.
Currently, the EMAD system is available in select models on floor toms and on bass drumheads—both batter and reso. While we have “standard” clear EMAD heads, the EMAD system is also available on some of our most popular bass drumheads like Heavyweight, UV, Calftone, and Onyx. You can also get an EMAD System Pack which combines an EMAD batter and reso head.
Among the thousands of players who have become EMAD lovers, there are also some big names that you may recognize. From Rob Rolfe (Enter Shikari) and Matt Halpern (Periphery) to Brian Frasier-Moore and Anika Niles, heavy hitters across the drum world have EMAD heads on their kicks.
