Orchestral Strings Silk Color Chart

The Orchestral Strings Silk Color Chart displays the colors we use to identify different strings across different sets and instruments, as well as different tensions. This chart covers all tensions and pitches found on violin, viola, cello, and bass across our string lines, including Prelude, Ascenté, Kaplan, Pro-Arté, Helicore, and Zyex.

Peg End (Tension & Pitch)

Closest to the peg end of the string, you’ll find silk which indicates the strings pitch. The small bit of silk that’s closer to the bridge indicates the tension of the string.

Ball End (Brand)

The silk at the ball end of the string is uniquely colored for each D’Addario Orchestral string brand.
