VENN Clarinet Reeds provide previously unimaginable consistency, stability, and longevity. The brilliant design blends the sonic excellence of an organic reed with the resilience of a synthetic, giving clarinetists a superior playing experience.
VENN signals a new era in woodwinds innovation, combining a synthetic reed's stability with the sound and feel of natural cane. We reverse-engineered cane itself, layering polymer fibers with resin and reed particles to make the blank. The result? VENN outlasts and outperforms—all while playing and sounding like natural cane.
“When I first played VENN I was stunned. This was an entirely different experience—the reeds are organic and alive.”
"VENN completely changes the game! As a synthetic reed user, I've struggled to find one that feels reactive and great to play. That search is over!"
"It feels quite good. I'm quite surprised by the variety of tonal characteristics I can get out of this reed."
“I’m a cane user and didn't think I would ever find a synthetic to meet any of my needs. I’m a huge fan of this reed.”
"In 2014, I challenged our Woodwinds team to create the first synthetic reed to duplicate the properties and playing characteristics of natural cane. After numerous years and thousands of hours, we accomplished the task by creating a material matrix of co-polymers, longitudinal fibers, and real cane elements that have the physical and sonic properties of real cane."
To mimic the organic structure of cane, we reverse-engineered cane itself, layering different strengths of polymer fibers with food grade resin and organic reed elements to make up the reed blank. The result? VENN outlasts and outperforms anything else like it – all while sounding and playing like your favorite cane reed.
VENN is used just like your cane reed although requires no break in period and does not need to be moistened before use. We do advise taking extra care in correctly positioning the reed on your mouthpiece for optimal playability and response.
VENN reeds can be cleaned with appropriately diluted alcohol-based cleaners or mild soap and lukewarm water. They should be wiped from the heel towards the tip of the reed using a paper towel or non-abrasive cloth. Avoid using microfiber cloths on the reed, as they may catch and pull fibers from the resin matrix.
Although VENN reeds can be cleaned and disinfected, we recommend that players do not share reeds.
VENN is designed to work out of the box without the care and maintenance needed for cane reeds and is resistant to adverse environments. To best protect VENN, we recommend storing it in a case such as our RVCASE04 Multi-Reed Storage Case.
VENN reeds tend to run slightly harder than premium cane reeds and other synthetic options that are available. We highly recommend visiting the strength comparison charts for your voice before choosing your VENN reed strength.
VENN Reeds are designed to last up to 3-6 months when properly used and cared for.
While VENN contains natural cane elements, it is not designed to be filed, sanded or otherwise modified and may impact the performance or durability of the reed.
Over time, tiny fibers may fray slightly on the side of VENN. This is normal, not harmful, and does not affect the performance of the reed. If you find this bothersome, any loose fibers can be carefully clipped away with scissors. Take care to not clip the reed itself and do not pull on the fibers.
No. Do not remove the film on the bottom of VENN. The film is designed to protect the reed from damage and it does not affect the performance or sound of the reed.
